How to choose a natural stone slab

With natural stone it is not only the type of stone that matters. The specific slab to be used matters too.

Two slabs of the same stone can differ in tone, pattern and movement. That is why, before fabrication, we review available slabs with you and the aspects that can influence the result so you can choose.

The full slab

An image or a small sample can work as a reference, but it does not always show how a stone will look when it fills an island, a worktop or a full wall.

That is why we look at the full slab and assess how it can work in the project.

The pattern

Some stones are fairly uniform; others have much stronger veins and movement.

We review the pattern of available slabs with you and what possibilities they offer for the pieces to be made.

The dimensions

Slab dimensions and piece measurements are related.

This matters especially on large islands or when the project is made of several pieces. We take it into account when selecting slabs and planning how to use the material.

The whole

When a stone continues across different pieces, we study which areas of the slab to use and how to relate the pattern when possible.

We share these decisions with you before fabrication so you can see how the material is planned in your project.
